IFI condemns the illegal arrest of Bishop Carlo Morales and his companions in Ozamis City

We, the Iglesia Filipina Independiente (IFI), raise our voice to the highest condemnation the illegal arrest of Bishop Carlo Morales and his companions by the elements of Philippine National Police (PNP) in a checkpoint in Gango, Ozamis City at 6:00 PM on May 11, 2017. Reportedly, the police said that one of his companions is an alleged member of the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP).

Be that as it may, we find no reason that the good IFI Bishop of Ozamiz will be illegally arrested, handcuffed and illegally detained in jail. He had fully introduced himself as a Bishop but still he was accorded with such maltreatments.

We demand for his immediate release. It is a clear violation of human rights and on person who is a Religious Leader or a Bishop that has an obligation to provide protection or sanctuary to a person who is in distress or politically persecuted.

We urge all our friends in Media to go to Gango Police Station as soon as possible in order to expose this despicable police malpractice and a clear harassment and human rights violation!

BISHOP ANTONIO N. ABLON,
IFI Pagadian Diocese
