Fifty-four victims turned human rights defenders from all over Mindanao gathered in Davao City from Jan. 29 to Jan. 30 to consolidate their ranks in pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n
Organized by Hustisya, the activity provided the participants an overview of the current human rights situation and the prospects for peace under the Duterte administration. It also involved sharing of experiences in the campaign for the defense of human rights and planning for future activities.<\/p>\n
The participants are beneficiaries of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights\u2019 project, \u201cConfronting Challenges on Human Rights Defenders in the Philippines.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jay Apiag of Hustisya Southern Mindanao shared the continuing campaign for justice of victims, relatives and advocates in the region. He focused on overcoming the challenges brought about by the imposition of martial law in Mindanao as well as how the victims and advocates can exert efforts to defend their rights despite limited means.<\/p>\n
Hustisya National Chairperson Evangeline Hernandez reported on the organization\u2019s programs and activities.<\/p>\n
For the planning session, the participants were divided into groups. Outputs were presented and adopted by the participants.<\/p>\n
