Twenty-two human rights defenders based in Central Luzon participated in the training on evidence gathering and preservation which they can use in documenting cases of human rights violations.<\/p>\n
The three-day training which was led by the National Union of People\u2019s Lawyers was held on May 11 to May 13, 2018 in San Fernando, Pampanga.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Maribelle Uminga of the NUPL discussed the basic crime scene operations in human rights related cases. She showed the methods on the conduct of crime scene investigations.<\/p>\n
On the second day, Prosecutor Uminga and Atty. Carlos Montemayor, also from NUPL, discussed the importance of forensic sciences in the investigation of human rights related cases.<\/p>\n
The workshop required participants to interview victims and witnesses and to manage a mock crime scene.<\/p>\n
The last day of training had Atty. Montemayor present the gaps in the Philippine crime scene investigation system and considerations in the search of missing persons.<\/p>\n
The participants were also given an input on the updates of human rights situation by Cristina Guevarra of Hustisya.<\/p>\n
