On September 30, 2016 Bulatlat.com conducted a forum Challenges of Human Rights Reporting, from Martial Law to the Duterte Administration at the St. Scholastica\u2019s College, Manila. It was aimed to discuss the trials faced by media workers covering the human rights beat during martial law, when the press was suppressed, and in the succeeding years when democracy was supposedly restored. There was special focus on media coverage and treatment of stories of human rights violations to help give perspective to future journalists among the student audience. Mervin H. Toquero, Project Coordinator, challenged the students to work for the protection of human rights during his closing remarks.<\/p>\n

The forum was able to gather 133 participants, including the head of the department, Atty. Charlton Romero, the editorial board of the Scholastican student publication, Prof. Ednalyn de la Cruz, the faculty adviser of The Scholastican, and the whole faculty of the department and students of journalism and broadcast media.<\/p>\n
