The National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) joins the earnest plea of many sectors for the Commission on Appointments of Congress to confirm the appointments of Secretary Judy Taguiwalo (DSWD), Secretary Rafael Mariano (DAR) and Secretary Gina Lopez (DENR).
We laud the move of President Rodrigo Duterte to appoint these persons to their respective positions where it matters most-bringing the government closer to the people or to be precise addressing the issues of poverty, genuine land reform and the protection of our environment.
In the few months they served as secretaries, hopes bouyed that real change for the better is forthcoming. Indeed, they have manifested a deep appreciation of the enormity of the task of their respective departments and have not shirked to render laudable service.
To the honorable members of the Commission on Appointments, the hour calls for decisive measures in the name of posterity and the well-being of the majority of our people especially those who produce our food. Please take the major step in this defining moment. Confirm their appointments. You will find a grateful nation.
May the feast of the resurrection remind us of the triumph of goodness.
