Standing Strong Together

A Statement of Solidarity for the 54th Anniversary of the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines

On this auspicious occasion of the 54th anniversary of the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines (RMP), the National Council of Churches in the Philippines (NCCP) extends its warmest greetings of solidarity and heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering dedication and selfless service that RMP has rendered to the poor and the marginalized throughout the years.

Since its inception, the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines has been a beacon of hope, a steadfast companion, and a tireless advocate for the marginalized and underserved communities in our nation. With a resolute commitment to living out the Gospel’s call for justice and compassion, the RMP has been at the forefront of addressing the pressing needs of those on the fringes of society, ensuring that they are not forgotten and left behind.

The crucial role that the RMP has played in serving the rural poor cannot be overstated. RMP’s tireless efforts in providing assistance to poor communities such as education, healthcare, and empowerment to those who have been marginalized by economic, social, and political structures have been instrumental in alleviating suffering in achieving a more just and equitable society.

Furthermore, the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines have exemplified the prophetic witness of the church, fearlessly speaking truth to power, advocating and demanding systemic change. In a time when the voices of the marginalized often go unheard, RMP has stood as a powerful testimony for transformation. RMP’s prophetic witness has challenged the status quo, inspired others to take up the cause of justice, and fiercely reminding the church people and faith communities that the pursuit of a more compassionate world is a sacred duty that transcends all boundaries.

The NCCP also expresses deep concern and solidarity as RMP faces the challenges of legal harassment and intimidation perpetrated by the state. The Rural Missionaries of the Philippines’ commitment to justice has not gone unnoticed, and it is a sad reality that those who advocate for the marginalized are often targeted for their courageous work.

However, the RMP’s steadfastness in the face of adversity serves as a shining example of resilience and unwavering commitment in championing justice. The NCCP stands with RMP in the struggle against systemic oppression and thus calls upon all who believe in the principles of justice and human rights to join in support and solidarity.

As we celebrate the 54th anniversary of the Rural Missionaries of the Philippines, let us recommit ourselves to the shared vision of a society where life can flourish, where justice and peace prevail, and where the dignity of every being is upheld. The NCCP is honored to stand alongside the RMP in this noble endeavor, and we continue to be in partnership with them in ushering in a more just and compassionate society.
